ALPHA TALKS & TRANSFORMATION CONFERENCE
Location: St George, Wintergarden, Yrjönkatu 13, Helsinki
ALPHA Talks: Finnish Fashion
What makes up Finnish fashion? There is no easy answer, as Finnish fashion consists of diverse traditions, cultures, people and institutions. Finland may be known internationally for its fashioned functionality and prints and as the hotbed of talents from Aalto University, but what are the links between the past, present and future shape of Finnish fashion, and which institutions and people have been instrumental to its developments? The talk is the first in a series of talks on Nordic fashion, moderated by Ane Lynge-Jorlén, director at ALPHA, and it brings together Finnish fashion scholars and designers.
ALPHA is a non-profit organisation that supports emerging fashion designers from the Nordics. Through international collaborations, awards, exhibitions at Nordic museums, films and talks, ALPHA supports fashion designers who show high levels of originality, creativity, progressiveness, craftsmanship and responsibility. ALPHA believes in the cultural value of fashion and the craft and criticality of its creators.
Transformation Conference
Exploring technological breakthroughs in fashion. In the midst of the most transformative period that fashion has ever seen, we want to explore how Finland and Sweden can deepen their impact on the industry — together.
The purpose of Transformation Conference is strengthening the connection between Finland and Sweden, between creativity and innovation, between companies and investors. The purpose is to create a new platform where innovation companies, creative talent, and investors can meet and create new alliances.
The conference is built around panel discussions and interviews about topics such as “Materials and Technology – the new Nordic innovations”, “How brands can use technology to help with sustainability”, “How to use creativity to address our challenges”.
Transformation Conference is organised by Scandinavian Mind and Juni Communication.

Bergman Designs Launch x Mari Mäntynen

By invitation only
Exhibition is open for public 2.-9.6.2024
Monday – Friday: 11-19
Saturday – Sunday: 11-17
In collaboration with the photographer Mari Mäntynen, Erika Bergman launches her new brand Bergman Designs and CAÏSSA collection in a multidisciplinary showcase, seamlessly blending the realms of photography, video and music. Collection is presented in the form of an art exhibition, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the maximalism and baroque-inspired photography and short film, alongside the fashion show and a live performance by Goldielock.
Bergman Designs is a new Helsinki-based fashion label that works as a counterbalance for Scandinavian minimalism inspired by The Baroque and Romantic art periods. Every creation is an impressive piece of art to be interpreted differently by every wearer. As Finland being the intersection of Eastern and Western European culture, we love to play with contrasts. Our pieces embody both masculinity and femininity and we practice both strong and soft shapes in our designs. With the “more is more” mindset we design statement pieces of the wardrobes that help romanticize one’s everyday life.

FIX: Care and Repair exhibition
Location: The Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum, Korkeavuorenkatu 23, Helsinki
The exhibition FIX: Care and Repair, produced in collaboration with experts from the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum, brings together architecture, design, and contemporary art. The exhibition highlights the repair of objects and buildings, environmental maintenance, cleaning, and the aesthetics associated with dirt and wear. In the exhibition museums are portrayed as places of care, where collection management and conservation uphold a carefully curated collection of objects.
The way we treat broken objects reveals something about us and our society. Do we consider repairing real work? Do we consider a repaired object beautiful? Do we prefer to repair something, or do we throw it away and replace it with something new?
