Transformation Conference – Innovating the fashion industry through Nordic values
Location: Puistokatu 4, Helsinki
Sweden and Finland are similar in many ways, and our commonalities are shown in the current state of the fashion industry. Our shared values of equality and innovation have birthed some of the most forward-thinking materials companies, as well as fostered a slew of creative talent in global demand.
In the midst of the most transformative period that fashion has ever seen, we want to explore how Finland and Sweden can deepen their impact on the industry — together.
Transformation Conference is a twin-event taking place both in Helsinki and in Stockholm during the summer of 2022. The purpose is to create a new platform where innovation companies, creative talent, and investors can meet and create new alliances.

VAIN is an interdisciplinary design project by the Helsinki based artist Jimi Vain. What started as a one-man design project back in 2019 has since evolved into a prominent independent fashion label. VAIN and it’s story is a testament to the very nature of what it means to be creative in the Digital Age. In an evermore technocratic world it’s sometimes easy to forget that what brings us together as humans is the love we have, and VAIN is all about love.

Opening drinks, 2.6. at 18.00 – 20.00, by invitation
The Veerkracht sustainable platform presents their first exhibition at Fashion in Helsinki in June 2022. During covid pandemic, the platform has worked in creative dialogue and collaboration between Europe’s leading denim hub Amsterdam, London, and other European cities. The team includes Finnish and British designers and artists and 4 young Dutch denim talents who have worked closely with the curator Jani Kaila and denim sustainability specialist Maarten Wentholt.
The exhibition presents different approaches to sustainable treatments, nature positive denim solutions, biodegradability, natural dyeing techniques, upcycling, and industrial processes using less water, energy, and harmful chemicals.
The Veerkracht exhibition showcases sustainable denim fabrics and garments, large-scale denim sculptures, art installations and fine art denim pieces. The team presents the results from experimental biospheric FashionLabs set up in four biodiversities in Sahara, Veneto, Amsterdam and Turku Archipelago. The participants have worked with denim, which has been treated with soil and water enzymes and regenerative natural forces. Special results have also been achieved with oxidation and rusting processes.
The innovative sustainable industrial collaboration with eco-friendly and certified natural mineral pigments has taken place at Zaitexfashion laboratories in Veneto, Italy.
The participants are Enzo Faber, Mickey Gibbons, Jani Kaila, Luna van Kessel, Katja Kiviranta, Judith Lyons, Harri Niskanen, Florian Regtien, Josien Verwoerd and Maarten Wentholt.

Arela Reborn Demo and stitching workshop
Location: Arela Studio, Uudenmaankatu 7
The core of the Arela Reborn concept is to appreciate the high-quality materials and extend the life cycle of Arela products. The collection gives a new life to preloved and worn-out Arela knits.
The first Arela Reborn upcycling collection launched in the fall of 2021. This collection was hand-dyed using a tie-dye technique, which gave the knits a new painting-like surface. This unique take created a fascinating contrast with classic cashmere knits.
The next step for Arela Reborn is to examine different stitching techniques. How can we create something new and beautiful by repairing and upcycling an old knit using innovative and artistic stitching?
Upcycling is a process to recycle or reuse material to give it a second life or a new function. The upcycling process often creates higher quality or value products than the original.
